Resume checkers can give different scores because they evaluate different things and apply their own rules. One may emphasise file structure; another may compare your wording with a job description. A public checker's number is not a universal employer pass mark, and a higher score does not guarantee an interview.
The useful next step is to read the individual findings, check them against the vacancy and correct genuine problems. Rewriting solely to raise a number can make the resume less accurate or less readable.
Separate three different questions
Can the file be read?
Parsing means extracting information from a document. A checker may look for selectable text, recognisable sections or formatting risks. That is different from deciding whether you meet a job's requirements.
Greenhouse describes how its resume parser fills candidate fields. Its documentation lists layouts and file characteristics that can cause incomplete extraction and explains that manual correction may be needed. This is evidence about that product's parsing process, not a rule that every employer rejects every two-column resume.
Does the resume show relevant evidence for this vacancy?
A job-description comparison can identify terms present in the vacancy but absent from the resume. Some are genuine omissions; others represent skills or qualifications you do not have. The first group may need clearer wording. The second cannot honestly be fixed by adding keywords.
How does the employer decide whom to progress?
The employer's application questions, eligibility requirements and review process are separate from a public resume checker. Do not infer them from a third-party score. A readable file can still describe an unsuitable background, and a relevant candidate can still receive a warning about formatting.
What Resume Craft India's scanner tells you
Our free ATS resume checker provides file-readability, formatting and structure guidance. Without a job description, its result should not be interpreted as role-specific job fit. Adding a target job description enables a keyword comparison with that text.
The scanner does not reproduce a particular employer's ATS configuration or predict hiring. Check each finding against the vacancy and what you actually did before accepting an edit.
A worked review: an accounts assistant application
This is a fictional example, not a scanner benchmark or a customer result.
The vacancy mentions invoice processing, bank reconciliation and SAP. The candidate has supported invoice processing, completed bank-reconciliation exercises during training and has never used SAP.
Finding: invoice processing is missing. Check whether the activity is described vaguely as “accounts work”. If the candidate checked invoice entries under supervision, say that: “Checked supplier invoice entries under the accounts team's supervision.”
Finding: bank reconciliation is missing. Add the training activity under Training or Projects, with its actual context. Do not present classroom practice as independent workplace responsibility.
Finding: SAP is missing. Leave it missing. Read whether SAP is required or preferred and decide whether the application is appropriate. A keyword score does not authorise inventing experience.
Finding: contact details are unclear. Check the exported file and the application form's parsed fields. Move important information into ordinary document text if it is lost in a graphic or text box.
This review improves clarity without changing the candidate's qualifications.
How to compare two checker results fairly
- Use the same file version. A Word file and a PDF exported from it can differ in text extraction.
- Use the same job description, or record that no job description was supplied.
- Compare the findings by category: parsing, structure, wording and job requirements.
- Check whether the warning is relevant. A missing skill is not automatically a writing error.
- Review the document as a person would. Repeated keywords and unnatural sentences are not improvements.
Do not average two scores or treat the difference as a percentage increase in your chances. The numbers may not measure the same thing.
Formatting corrections worth checking
Use clear section headings, consistent dates and a readable main text area. Avoid submitting a photograph of the resume. Check the employer's allowed file types and size limit; the Workable application-file guidance is one example of platform-specific requirements.
Copying text into a plain-text editor can reveal obvious missing content or a confused reading order. It cannot certify the file for every ATS. Where an application shows fields filled from your upload, review those fields before submitting.
For a full layout walkthrough, use the India ATS format guide. Applying to UAE or another GCC market does not create a separate universal ATS score: use the Gulf CV guide for relevant application details.
Common questions
Is 80 or 90 a guaranteed passing score?
No public checker score establishes a universal employer threshold. A score needs an explanation of its inputs and criteria before it is useful, and it still does not predict an employer's decision.
Can Canva resumes pass an ATS?
The finished file matters more than the design tool's name. A simple text-based export can be readable; a layout dependent on images, columns or text boxes may create extraction problems. Check the file and the actual application requirements.
Should I remove all tables?
For broad compatibility, a simple single-column resume reduces avoidable complexity. Tables can cause parsing problems in some systems, but “every table causes automatic rejection” goes beyond the evidence.
Why am I not getting interviews even with a high score?
A score cannot assess the whole hiring process. Review role suitability, required qualifications, application answers and the clarity of your experience. No response alone does not prove an ATS rejected your document.
If the findings are difficult to interpret, review our resume writing service or GCC application support. Ask for an explanation of the proposed edits, not a guaranteed number.
