Choose a resume writer who asks about your target role, checks your experience, explains the package and delivers files you can edit. Before paying, ask how the writer would adapt your resume to a real vacancy in India or the GCC. A promised ATS score or interview cannot answer that question.

Start with the help you actually need
A layout correction: Your content is already accurate and targeted, but dates, spacing or text extraction need attention. A simple template and careful editing may be enough.
A content rewrite: Your resume lists duties without explaining your contribution, or your target role is hard to identify. Look for a writer who asks follow-up questions and can explain editorial choices.
A change of role or market: You are moving from administration into HR support, or applying from Kerala to UAE employers. Ask how the writer will distinguish transferable experience from skills you have not yet used.
Do not pay for extra documents simply because they are bundled. Decide whether you need a resume alone, a cover letter, LinkedIn support or a combination.
Seven checks before you choose
1. Does the writer ask about a real target role?
Send a representative vacancy, your current resume and a short explanation of your next step. A writer should identify relevant evidence, not paste every keyword from the vacancy into your skills section. One unfocused resume for unrelated nursing, administration and sales roles will struggle to explain a coherent fit.
2. How are missing facts handled?
Ask what happens when you cannot provide an achievement percentage or exact project outcome. A credible rewrite can describe responsibilities, tools and scope without inventing results.
Illustrative example, not a customer case: If the confirmed information is “assisted with supplier invoices and maintained the payment tracker”, a clearer sentence is “Supported supplier invoice processing and maintained the payment tracker for follow-up.” It does not justify “Reduced payment delays by 40%” or “Managed the finance department.”
3. What does “ATS-friendly” mean in practice?
Ask to see a redacted or fictional sample. Check that headings, dates and contact details remain readable when the text is copied into a plain-text editor. This is a useful first check, not proof of compatibility with every employer system.
Greenhouse's documentation on unsuccessful parsing identifies complex layouts and image-based content as possible problems. It also explains that a failed parse can leave a resume attached for manual entry; it does not establish that every parsing issue causes automatic rejection.

4. Will you receive an editable file?
Confirm PDF and editable Word/DOCX delivery if you need both. Ask whether you can update contact details and tailor the resume later. Open both versions before approving the final work: a PDF can look tidy while the Word version has awkward page breaks.
5. Is the GCC advice conditional on the application?
For Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC applications, ask how the writer handles current location, availability, visa information and professional licences. These should be relevant and confirmed. A writer should not assume that every employer requires a photograph, nationality or a driving licence.

6. What exactly is included in the quote?
Get the package, deliverables, first-draft conditions and revision scope in writing. Clarify whether another target role, a second version or a later major update costs extra. Compare the same scope across providers; a resume-only quote and a resume-plus-LinkedIn package are different purchases.
7. Can you verify the business and its work?
Check consistent contact information, a clear process and accessible policies. Treat testimonials as individual accounts, not proof of a typical hiring outcome. Never send someone else's unredacted resume to ask for a sample, and ask how your own documents will be handled.
A brief you can send before requesting a quote
I am applying for [target role] in [country/market]. My background is [short factual summary]. I need [resume / cover letter / LinkedIn support]. Please confirm the included files, price, first-draft conditions and revision scope. I can share my existing resume and a representative vacancy. Please flag missing facts rather than assume them.
If you are a fresher, replace the work-history summary with your course, relevant projects and any actual internships. If you are applying from India, state your real location; do not ask the writer to present you as already based in Dubai.

Common questions
Do I need a writer in my own city?
An online service can work if you can share information, review a draft and get clear answers. If you want an in-person meeting in Kochi, Kozhikode or another city, confirm that the provider actually offers it. A city name on a website is not evidence of a local office.
Is a paid resume better than one I prepare myself?
Not automatically. Pay for useful questioning, writing and checking that you cannot easily do yourself. A factual, carefully targeted DIY resume can be effective; a paid document can still be generic.
Should I choose whoever promises the highest ATS score?
No. Compare the explanation and quality of the document. ATS scores depend on what a checker measures, and they do not guarantee shortlisting.
